Seasonal
Cleaning Tips

Townsville's tropical climate means your cleaning schedule should change with the seasons. Here's exactly what to focus on — and when — to keep your home in top condition all year round.

November – April

Wet Season

Manage moisture, prevent mould, protect your home.

Mould Prevention

Run air conditioning and ceiling fans daily to reduce indoor humidity. Wipe down wet surfaces immediately after rain comes in — especially window sills, door frames, and bathroom walls.

Entry Points

Keep towels near doors during storm season. Wet footprints tracked inside create moisture beneath mats and tiles, encouraging mould growth. Lift and dry mats weekly.

Ventilate After Rain

Once storms pass, open windows and doors to flush humid air out of the home. Don't trap moisture inside with sealed rooms.

Check for Leaks

Inspect ceilings, walls, and window seals during heavy rain. Early detection of leaks prevents water damage and mould spreading behind walls.

Outdoor Furniture

Store cushions and fabric items indoors during prolonged wet periods. Hose down hard outdoor furniture after storms to prevent mildew and staining.

Fly Screens

Clean fly screens monthly — wet season brings insects and debris that clog screens and push moisture inward. A soft brush and mild soapy water does the job.

Dry Season

Beat the dust, refresh every surface, deep clean while conditions are perfect.

Deep Clean Windows

The dry season is the ideal time for window cleaning — no rain to undo your work. Clean inside and out, including frames, tracks, and sills.

Dust Everything

Fine red dust settles on every surface during the dry. Use a microfibre cloth on fans, vents, blinds, skirting boards, and shelving. Vacuum before mopping.

Air Con Filters

Service and clean your air conditioning filters at the start of the dry season. You're about to use them constantly — a clean filter means better air quality and lower power bills.

Outdoor Deep Clean

Pressure wash patios, driveways, fences, and outdoor furniture. The dry season is your best window before wet season grime and mould has a chance to settle in.

Mattress & Linen Refresh

Use the sunshine to air mattresses, pillows, and heavy blankets. UV light naturally kills dust mites and freshens fabrics — something the humidity prevents most of the year.

Pantry & Fridge Audit

Clear out and deep clean your pantry and fridge. The dry season is perfect timing — check expiry dates, wipe shelves, and use bay leaves or cloves to deter pantry moths.

Storm Season Prep

Get your home ready before the first storms hit.

Clear Gutters & Downpipes

Blocked gutters overflow during heavy rain, pushing water under eaves and into walls. Clear them thoroughly before November so water flows freely away from the house.

Check Door & Window Seals

Replace worn weatherstripping and door seals before the wet hits. A $10 fix now prevents significant water and mould damage later.

Secure & Store Outdoor Items

Bring in or secure anything that could become a projectile in high winds — cushions, garden tools, pot plants, and lightweight furniture.

Inspect the Roof Space

Check for gaps, broken tiles, or rust around vents and skylights. A small roof gap means significant water ingress during a Townsville downpour.

Clean Under Appliances

Pull out the fridge and washing machine and clean underneath. Storm season means higher humidity — hidden debris under appliances can become a mould hotspot.

Stock Cleaning Supplies

Make sure you have white vinegar, microfibre cloths, mould spray, and spare bin bags. When storms pass, you'll want to clean up quickly.

Post-Wet Reset

Assess the damage, deep clean, and start the dry season fresh.

Full Mould Audit

Walk every room and check silicone seals, grout lines, under sinks, behind toilets, ceiling corners, and curtain tracks for any mould growth that took hold during the wet.

Deep Clean Bathrooms

After months of humidity, bathrooms need a reset. Scrub grout, re-seal silicone if needed, descale showerheads, and polish chrome fixtures back to like-new condition.

Refresh Soft Furnishings

Wash or dry-clean cushion covers, curtains, and throws. Humid air carries odour into fabrics — a proper wash resets the whole feel of a room.

Clean Ceiling Fans & Vents

They've been running non-stop. Wipe down every fan blade and vacuum air con vents to remove accumulated dust and moisture residue.

Outdoor Restoration

Scrub mildew off outdoor furniture, pressure wash paths and patios, and treat any timber decking or fencing that's weathered through the wet season.

Book a Professional Deep Clean

The post-wet reset is Renee's busiest season — and for good reason. A professional deep clean after the wet removes what you can't see and sets your home up for the best part of the Townsville year.
